Privacy Policy
Last Updated: October 2026
1. Overview
Tap to Shift is a self-awareness app designed to support moment-to-moment awareness and nervous system support in a simple, private, and respectful way.
Your privacy matters. This Privacy Policy explains what information we may collect, how it is used, how long it may be retained, and the choices you have regarding your data.
This Privacy Policy covers both the Tap to Shift app and the Tap to Shift website at taptoshift.com. The website mailing list is described in the Website Mailing List section below.
2. How Tap to Shift Works
Tap to Shift can be used with or without creating an account.
Core features may be available without signing in.
Creating an account allows eligible information, progress, and saved entries to be associated with your account and accessed across sessions.
Account creation is currently available to users age 13 and older and may require a date of birth to confirm age eligibility.
Some features allow you to voluntarily save reflections, selections, logs, preferences, or other self-awareness information.
You may optionally choose a profile photo. Profile photos are stored locally on your device and are not uploaded to Tap to Shift servers or Firebase.
3. Information We Collect
We collect or process information as necessary to provide, maintain, and improve the Tap to Shift experience.
If you use Tap to Shift without creating an account:
- You may use certain core features without providing account information.
- Certain app activity or technical information may still be processed to support app functionality, reliability, and analytics.
If you create an account or choose to save information, we may collect:
- A unique user ID through Firebase Authentication
- Account information you provide, including your name, email address, and date of birth when creating an account
- Optional profile information you choose to provide, such as a general location, for example city, state, or country, and gender
- Optional content you choose to enter or save, such as reflections, gratitude entries, anxiety logs, self-regulation entries, Regulation Tendencies answers, Self-Awareness Mirror selections, and other inputs
- App activity and feature-interaction information used to provide, maintain, and improve the app
- Notification preferences or related settings when you choose to use notification features
Optional profile photos are handled differently from account data. Tap to Shift does not collect, upload, or store your selected profile photo in Firebase or on Tap to Shift servers. The photo is stored locally within the app on your device.
If you choose to connect health data, Tap to Shift may read selected health measurements made available by Apple Health or Health Connect, such as resting heart rate, heart rate variability, blood pressure, and steps.
These measurements are accessed only when you open or refresh the Body Signals screen. Tap to Shift does not upload or store these health measurements in Firebase or on Tap to Shift servers.
Date of birth is used to confirm age eligibility for account creation and may also support personalized features in the future.
General location and gender are optional profile details. Tap to Shift does not request precise device location for this profile information.
You choose what personal reflections, selections, optional profile details, health permissions, or other content you provide or allow.
4. Website Mailing List
This section applies to the Tap to Shift website at taptoshift.com and is separate from the Tap to Shift app and from any Tap to Shift account.
An email address is collected on the website only when you choose to subscribe to the mailing list. Subscribing does not create a Tap to Shift account, and your email address is not linked to your app data.
A mailing-list email address is used only to send you:
- Feature updates
- Tips
- App news
Subscriptions are processed and stored by Brevo, an email delivery service, which stores your email address and subscription status and sends messages to you on our behalf.
You may unsubscribe at any time:
- Use the unsubscribe link included at the bottom of every email we send
- Email support@taptoshift.com and ask us to remove your address from the mailing list
Your email address stays on the mailing list until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove it.
5. How Your Data Is Used
Information collected through Tap to Shift may be used to:
- Provide app functionality
- Save your progress and entries
- Maintain continuity across sessions
- Support account-related features
- Confirm age eligibility for account creation
- Support personalization features when applicable
- Remember preferences you choose to save
- Improve app functionality, reliability, and user experience
- Understand general feature usage and engagement
We do not:
- Sell your personal information
- Rent your personal information
- Share your personal information with third parties for their own marketing or advertising purposes
6. Analytics
Tap to Shift may use analytics services, including Firebase, to understand how the app is used and to improve app functionality.
Analytics may include information such as:
- App and feature interactions
- General usage and engagement
- Technical information about the app or device
- App performance or reliability information
We do not use analytics information to sell personal data or serve third-party advertising.
Tap to Shift does not intentionally include your date of birth, gender, or general location as analytics-event values.
7. App Permissions
Tap to Shift may request limited device permissions when necessary for features you choose to use.
These may include:
- Microphone access for optional voice-input features
- Notification permission for optional Today’s Shift messages, reminders, or other app notifications
- Photo-library access when you choose to select an optional profile photo
- Health access when you choose to connect the Body Signals feature to Apple Health on iOS or Health Connect on Android
- Physical-activity access on Android when required to read step information
Voice-input features may rely on speech-recognition services provided by your device or operating system. Depending on your device and settings, voice data may be processed by services operated by Apple, Google, or another platform provider.
Health permissions are optional and read-only. Tap to Shift requests access only to selected health information used in Body Signals and does not request permission to write health information through this feature.
Permissions are used only for the functionality for which they are requested. Tap to Shift does not use these permissions for advertising or cross-app tracking.
8. Notifications
Tap to Shift may offer optional notifications, including Today’s Shift messages or other reminders.
You may choose whether to allow notifications through your device settings or available settings within the app.
Notification preferences may be stored on your device or associated with your app settings as necessary to provide the feature.
9. Local Profile Photos
Tap to Shift allows you to optionally select a profile photo from your device.
Your profile photo is stored locally within the Tap to Shift app on your device. Tap to Shift does not upload the photo to Firebase, Tap to Shift servers, or another Tap to Shift cloud-storage service.
You may adjust, replace, or remove the photo from your Profile at any time.
The photo may remain available when you sign out and sign back in on the same device and is generally expected to remain through normal app updates because it is stored in the app’s local storage.
Because the photo is stored locally, it does not automatically sync to another device.
If you uninstall Tap to Shift, clear the app’s local data, or move to another device without restoring applicable device backup data, the photo may no longer be available.
Your device or operating-system backup service, such as iCloud or an Android device backup service, may include locally stored app data depending on your device, operating system, and backup settings.
Those backup services are operated by the applicable platform provider and are subject to their own privacy practices.
10. Optional Health Data & Body Signals
Body Signals is an optional feature that allows you to view selected health information already available through Apple Health on iOS or Health Connect on Android.
If you choose to connect this feature, Tap to Shift may read selected measurements such as:
- Resting heart rate
- Heart rate variability
- Blood pressure
- Steps
Availability depends on what your device, connected apps, wearable, or health platform makes available and what permissions you choose to grant.
Tap to Shift accesses this information only when you open or refresh the Body Signals screen.
Tap to Shift does not continuously monitor your health data in the background.
Tap to Shift does not upload, transmit, or store the health measurements displayed in Body Signals in Firebase or on Tap to Shift servers.
The measurements are used only to display the selected information to you on your device during use of the feature.
Tap to Shift does not diagnose, interpret, score, classify, or determine whether your health measurements are normal or abnormal.
Body Signals is provided for personal awareness only and is not medical advice or a substitute for professional medical care.
You control which health permissions you grant through Apple Health, Health Connect, and your device settings.
You may change or revoke those permissions at any time through the applicable platform settings.
Availability of individual measurements depends on your device, wearable, connected apps, operating system, and health-platform settings.
11. Sharing & Export Features
Tap to Shift may allow you to create, export, save, or share cards, PDFs, summaries, messages, reflections, selections, or other content based on information you choose to provide or select.
Tap to Shift does not automatically post, send, or share this content anywhere.
You decide whether to share or export content and which app, service, device location, or person receives it through your device’s available sharing or saving options.
Once you choose to share content with another app, platform, service, or person, that third party’s privacy practices and handling of the information may apply.
12. Third-Party Services
Tap to Shift uses third-party services to support app functionality, including:
- Firebase by Google for services such as authentication, cloud data storage, analytics, and app infrastructure
- Apple and/or Google platform services when you choose to use device features such as speech recognition, notifications, sharing, calling, messaging, Apple Health, or Health Connect
- Brevo for processing and storing website mailing-list subscriptions and sending mailing-list emails
Tap to Shift may also provide access to independent crisis or emergency resources, such as 988 or 911 in the United States.
Selecting one of these resources may open your device’s phone or messaging app so you can choose whether to contact the service directly.
Tap to Shift does not operate or control these independent services and does not automatically send your Tap to Shift account data, reflections, or saved entries to them.
Third-party services may process information as necessary to provide their functionality and operate according to their own privacy and security practices.
13. Data Security
Tap to Shift takes reasonable measures to protect information from unauthorized access, loss, misuse, alteration, or disclosure.
We use established third-party infrastructure, including Firebase, to support the storage and processing of app data.
However, no method of electronic transmission or storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
14. Data Retention
Tap to Shift retains account information and user-provided content only for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the app’s features and services.
If you create an account, information associated with your account, including your date of birth, optional profile details, saved reflections, selections, logs, and other user-provided content, may be retained while your account remains active so that your progress and experience can be maintained across sessions.
When you delete your account through Tap to Shift, your account and associated user data are deleted from our active systems, except where limited retention may be necessary for legitimate legal, security, fraud-prevention, regulatory, or operational purposes.
Some information may remain temporarily in secure backups or systems operated by our service providers before being removed according to their applicable retention and deletion processes.
Health measurements displayed through Body Signals are not stored in Tap to Shift account records, Firebase, or Tap to Shift servers and therefore are not retained by Tap to Shift as part of your account data.
15. Your Control & Choices
You remain in control of the information you choose to provide to Tap to Shift.
- Creating an account is optional.
- If you create an account, date of birth is required for age eligibility.
- General location and gender are optional profile details.
- You choose what reflections, selections, logs, or other information you provide.
- You may choose whether to allow optional device permissions.
- You may manage notification permissions through your device settings.
- You may choose whether to connect Apple Health or Health Connect and may change or revoke health permissions through your device or health-platform settings.
- You may add, adjust, replace, or remove an optional locally stored profile photo.
- If you subscribe to the website mailing list, you may unsubscribe at any time.
- You may stop using the app at any time.
- You may delete your account and associated data.
16. Account & Data Deletion
If you choose to create an account, you may delete your account directly within the Tap to Shift app at any time.
To delete your account:
- Open Tap to Shift → Account → Delete account
When you delete your account, your Tap to Shift account and associated user data, including stored date of birth and optional profile details, are deleted from our active systems, subject to the limited retention circumstances described in the Data Retention section above.
A locally stored profile photo is not part of your Firebase account data.
Depending on the device and app state, local app data may remain on the device until it is removed through the app, cleared by the operating system, or the app is uninstalled.
If you are unable to access the app, experience difficulty deleting your account, or have questions about your data, you may contact:
We will process applicable deletion requests within a reasonable timeframe.
17. Children’s Privacy
Tap to Shift is not intended for children under the age of 13.
Account creation is currently limited to users age 13 and older.
When a user chooses to create an account, Tap to Shift may request a date of birth to determine age eligibility.
Users who indicate that they are under 13 are not permitted to create an account through the age-eligibility flow.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
If we become aware that personal information from a child under 13 has been collected, we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
18. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to Tap to Shift, our data practices, our features, or applicable requirements.
Updates will be reflected on this page with a revised Last Updated date.
